ENTRY VISA FOR STUDENTS OF FOREIGN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS COOPERATING WITH COLLEGES IN GREECE

Under article 26 of Law 5275/2026 (which added article 79D to the Migration Code), a new category of entry visa, with a validity period of up to nine (9) months was established, for third-country nationals, who are students of foreign higher education institutions that have entered into cooperation agreements with Colleges in Greece, for the purpose of attending courses and undertaking internships in Greece.

This provision enables foreign students to enter the country, attend courses at the aforementioned educational institution (College) and also complete an internship related to their field of study, in cooperation with and under the coordination of the educational institution in Greece.

The above-mentioned entry visa may also be granted in the absence of a bilateral agreement between the two institutions, provided that the third-country national has been admitted to the College in Greece for the purpose of attending courses and undertaking an internship that is relevant to their studies.

Specific supporting documents required for the issuance of an entry visa

  • Document issued by the foreign higher education institution confirming that the third-country national is a student at that institution
  • Document issued by the College confirming the existence of a cooperation agreement with the foreign higher education institution
  • Document issued by the College certifying, firstly that the student of the foreign higher education institution has been admitted to attend courses and undertake an internship in Greece, and secondly that any financial obligations of the student towards the educational institution in Greece have been fulfilled, if required
  • Evidence of sufficient proficiency in the language of instruction, at a minimum level of B1.
  • Evidence that the applicant has sufficient financial resources to cover their stay in Greece.

The third-country national holding this national visa is not eligible under article 12 of the Migration Code, that is they may not apply for or be classified under any other category of residence permit.
