Pursuant to the amendment of Article 134 (par. 5) of Law 5038/2023, as amended by Article 29 of Law 5226/2025 and Article 98 of Law 5038/2023, a residence permit on exceptional grounds may now be requested by a third-country national who is the parent of a minor Greek national.
The residence permit for exceptional reasons is granted once and is valid for three (3) years upon expiration of the permit, the holder may apply for a change in permit category, as provided for in Article 12 of Law 5038/2025.
For the residence permit for exceptional reasons, the application is submitted to the Decentralized Administration based on the applicant’s place of residence; it grants the right to engage in salaried employment and the provision of services or work, as well as to engage in business activities. A fee of three hundred (300) euros is required to submit the application.
Required Documents:
A valid travel document recognized by the authorities of the Hellenic Republic in accordance with the provisions of Article 6 of Law 4251/2014.
Certificate of family status for the child who is a Greek national, indicating their nationality and the full details of their parents.
A civil registry certificate of marriage or civil partnership, or evidence of cohabitation of the child’s parents or of the applicant’s exercise of custody over the child, or of the applicant’s financial contribution to the child’s upbringing, or a deoxyribonucleic acid ( (Deoxyribonucleic Acid - DNA) of the child and his or her parents from a public or certified private laboratory.
Notarized document of recognition of the child, where required.
